Velcro-Ribbon Watchband

 Ever think that having a water-resistant watch is kind of pointless to have when the watchband is leather?  That's what I had for a long time, actually.  I liked the look of it, but would forget about it when I got into water and also over time the band wore out and kind of stunk from getting wet/sweaty.
So one day I was going through some ribbon and sewing stuff and found some velcro and had the brilliant idea to try to make a velcro watchband.  I had one before when I was in college (store bought) and really liked that one and thought I could make my own, several even, to match different outfits.   There are a lot of advantages to having one of these that I discover every day.
         1.  It's so easy to get on and off.
         2.  Now, I don't have to worry about taking it off when I swim.
         3.  It's a lot softer than a leather one and the buckle doesn't scratch myself (or my kids or if I had a baby).  When I had babies, I wouldn't wear my watch because I was scared I would scratch them.  This would've been great to have.

So anyway, are you ready to see what I did.  It's very simple and takes only a few minutes, so on with the tutorial......

All you need is;
 3/4 in. wide velcro
3/4 in. wide of your favorite ribbon
Sewing machine
and of course, a watch face :)

 Step 1:  Cut two pieces of the ribbon about 8 in. or measure your wrist for exact measurements.  (I have always been considered "med.-big boned" so my wrists are pretty big.)  Then, cut you velcro the same size.
Step 2 :  Sew your pieces of ribbon to each (male and female) piece of velcro.
Step 3:  Then, put the velcro pieces together so that they will grab hold of each other when they're on your wrist.  (Make sense?)  So I measured about 3 in. down the female velcro and stuck the male velcro to it.
Step 4:  Then, slide the band through your watch.  It might be a little thick to slide through, so carefully take the pin out.  It springs out so make sure it's covered with your hand or something so it doesn't go flying.
Put the band on it and replace the pin.
 Now you have a great looking watchband!  So now go get some velcro and cool ribbon and make some for yourself.  Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
